SRAM bring wireless shifting to the masses – is the future of gear changes cableless?

AXS Desire Gear Orbea Specialized SRAM

Hot on the heels of SRAM Red eTap AXS, SRAM have brought wireless shifting to the masses with Force eTap AXS. Long-awaited and full of its big brother’s revolutionary tech, Force eTap AXS is redefining the battle for second tier groupsets. Featuring the radical gear ratio options, clutch derailleur and customisable wireless shifting, SRAM has packed a lot of tech into this new release.

It isn’t without its compromises – it is (marginally) cheaper after-all. The chainset, for example, is a standard spider with mounted chainrings (scandalous we know), instead of the spendy one-piece unit. You’re also slightly more limited on gear ratio choice, but frankly there is more than a full complement of optionality across 1x and 2x set-ups.

Is the future wireless? Over to you, unnamed Japanese rival. Who knows where the front of the equipment war is heading?
