Finance Team

We are seeking a highly organised and experienced bookkeeper to join our growing publishing and events business. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth financial operation of the company, maintaining accurate financial records, managing cashflow, and producing timely management information to support business decision-making.

The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping experience, be highly proficient with Xero and be comfortable managing both accounts payable and receivable in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.


What you’ll be doing
  • Process all purchase invoices: coding, approvals workflow, Purchase Order matching and posting to Xero
  • Prepare and issue sales invoices for publishing, sponsorship, advertising, subscriptions and event revenues
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payments and debtor chasing
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns
  • Preparation and submission of monthly payroll
  • Maintain rolling cashflow forecasts, monitor bank balances, and forward plan
  • Perform regular bank, credit card and petty cash reconciliations in Xero
  • Processing all expenses
  • Post journals for payroll, prepayments, accruals, and inter company recharges as required
  • Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow) with variance analysis against budget
  • Support event and publication budgeting, cost tracking, and post event profitability reviews
  • Liaise with external accountants on year end, VAT, and other statutory filings
  • Maintain organised digital records of all financial documentation in line with company policies


Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in a bookkeeping or similar finance role
  • Advanced working knowledge of Xero
  • Strong experience processing invoices and managing both payables and receivables
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts
  • Strong understanding of cashflow management
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong Excel or spreadsheet skills
Desirable experience
  • Experience working within publishing, media, or events industries
  • Experience supporting multi-revenue stream businesses
  • Familiarity with project or event costing
  • AAT qualification or equivalent (or qualified by experience)
