Cav gets a grilling, and other photos from the Asian crits

At the end of every season the stars of the Tour de France head east for exhibition races and some slightly embarrassing photo shoots. We’ve yet to have tired of the idea

Racing Saitama Shanghai

It’s that time of year again. You know, when the Eurocentric peloton is shipped-off to Asia ostensibly to ride criteriums but really to pose for photos while partaking in martial arts demos.

Organised by Tour de France promoters ASO, the events in Shanghai, China and Saitama, Japan saw Chris Froome swap his yellow jersey for a yellow ninja outfit and Warren Barguil do his best play-acting since that stage of the Vuelta where he didn’t ride in his team’s best interests.

The riders won’t necessarily thank her for it, but Pauline Ballet was there with her camera.

Yep, this is what it’s all about

And there was some racing too

Go Froome-dog go!

Warriors in battle

Cyclists in awkward pose

OK Alberto, you can do it just one last time

Saitama you say?

Looks uncannily like the Croydon underpass

There’s a good sport Chris

Has this been photoshopped?

We need to talk about the air pollution here

No, seriously

The result was a walkover

Champs Élysées practice

Please raise a big hand for the stars of the Tour de France
