There's a line of BMC road bikes called "Masterpiece". Unlike the other models from the Swiss brand, Masterpiece bikes are limited edition and hand-made by the world's best carbon fibre artisans. And, as the company states, no expense is spared with bikes in the Masterpiece series. Sure, they come at a price, but one that produces striking results.

Another one of BMC's bikes has just been 'upgraded' to the Masterpiece line, meaning there's now a Teammachine SLR Mpc (for Masterpiece) for the first time. At first glance, the new Teammachine is aesthetically pleasing and looks like a bike that wants to get ridden fast. Its lines and tubes are sleek and clean, and the exposed carbon helps to make it look more artistic.

The Teammachine is BMC's Altitude model, a bike made for climbing and descending. That's why lightweight, stiffness and handling must coalesce perfectly in order to have a bike that lives up to the expectations.

With its new model Teammachine SLT Mpc, BMC didn't necessarily want to reinvent the wheel (pun intended). After all, the Teammachine 01 had already won a Tour de France with Cadel Evans in 2011, plus World Championships and medals at the Olympics. Its performances were undisputed. However, they wanted to retain what had worked previously at such a high level, but at the same time, they embraced a radical new approach to frame production.

The first step was to rely on carefully selected and high-performance carbon fibres. BMC then used their ACE+ Technology software to calculate what they call "the perfect balance" of metrics and materials.

The manufacturing process begins with the lamination of the carbon fibre sheets directly into BMC's proprietary mould. The materials are then sent into the autoclave, the mega ovens where a delicate temperature and pressure balance make a dream bike come to life.

Teammachine SLR Mpc, says BMC, has achieved an unmatched stiffness-to-weight ratio that can precisely transmit the rider's power onto the road and generate sharp acceleration, excellent handling, and is in line with BMC's core value: to create pure speed.

The new Teammachine will be produced in limited numbers from June 2022. The new Teammachine SLR Mpc comes as a frameset that includes frame, fork, seat post and cockpit. It is delivered in an aluminium travelling box. Additional accessories are included to ensure the perfect ride in different scenarios.

The Teammachine can be buit in six sizes (47, 51, 54, 56, 58 and 61) and costs 12,000 euros (yes, frameset only) and can be ordered immediately on the BMC website. At the same time, the Roadmachine – BMC's Endurance model – will still be available as a Masterpiece.
