Opinion: Should the Tour de France 2020 be going ahead?

The cancellation of the 2020 Tour de France is necessary and overdue — Rouleur's unambiguous take on cycling's hardest decision of the pandemic era.

For myriad reasons, simple and complex. You do not need us to list them here. The cancellation of the sport’s showcase event will be a brutal blow and effectively – if not actually, though that seems likely too – bring the 2020 season to a close. There may be good reasons why it hasn’t been announced already – some have suggested a ruling from the state may be required to trigger any force majeure clause in contracts – but the longer we wait, the longer this unnecessary artifice of a debate is allowed to continue. It needs to end. There are more important things than cycling.
