Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step) stormed to victory on stage one of the 2026 Giro d'Italia and in doing so claimed the first pink jersey. He beat Tobias Lund Andresen (
Decathlon CMA CGM Team) and Ethan Vernon (NSN Cycling Team) to the line in Burgas / Бургас. All three were ahead of the pre-stage favourite Jonathan Milan.

It is the biggest win in the 22-year-old Magnier's career, on day that was calm for the most part, only to be shaken up by a big crash in the final kilometre which took out a number of sprinters.

Manuele Tarozzi (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber) and Diego Pablo Sevilla (Team Polti VisitMalta) spent the day in a two-rider breakaway, but the pair were never given much of a gap on a stage that was always destined for the sprinters. Their efforts weren't for nothing though  – Sevilla won both the uphill sprints on the two classified climbs and will wear the first maglia azzurra (blue jersey) as the KOM leader on Saturday.

Tarozzi claimed the first Red Bull KM and will have a green number pinned to his jersey on stage two. He also claimed the 6 bonus seconds, while Sevilla took 4. António Morgado
(UAE Team Emirates-XRG) sprinted from the peloton to take the remaining 2 bonus seconds.
