Mitchelton Scott’s Annemiek van Vleuten was announced the Sharon Laws Voxwoman rider of the year at the Rouleur Classic in London this evening.

The 37 year old Dutch star took the award at the end of a season that saw her crossing the line with arms aloft from the first race to the last. The run of results began at Strade Bianche, took in Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes, the overall and two stages of the Giro Rosa, before culminating in her first set of road race rainbow bands in Yorkshire.

The awards were voted for by the public, following two previous rounds of voting. Presented by Voxwomen’s Laura Winter at the Rouleur Classic in London, the awards also honoured the riders who came second and third, Kirsten Wild and Christine Majerus.

The awards are named in honour of Sharon Laws, the 2012 British Road race champion who died in 2017. Sharon’s mother Joy sent over a message to be read out at the ceremony:

“Congratulations to all contenders for the Award this year, especially the final three. I wish them and all next year’s pro-cyclists safe and happy cycling in what will be an exciting time for those chosen to represent their countries in the Olympic Games.

Thank you, for continuing to keep Sharon’s memory alive.”
