Assos Mille GTS Bib Shorts: Made for the long haul

Assos Mille GTS Bib Shorts: Made for the long haul

Assos's new Mille GTS shorts promise a fresh assault on saddle discomfort

Words: Joseph Delves

After a century in the saddle I’ve often found myself willing to exchange almost anything in exchange for a better bib short. Not an item it pays to skimp on, Assos’ premium Mille shorts are known to be some of the best endurance-focused options available.

Now looking ahead to a barely-credible future when the weather is warm and we’re free to go out and rack up triple-digit mileage, Assos is planning to build upon their success with a new generation bib called the Mille GTS.

Featuring a plush double-layer insert, compressive fit, and tweaked tailoring, like the shorts' forebears, the focus remains on those looking for added comfort on all-day adventures.

Long-known for developing its products from the ground up, these latest Mille shorts again use Assos’ exclusive Ossidia textile which was first created especially for its bibs. Intending to simultaneously reduce friction while providing support to hard-working muscles, it promises to combine with the insert to reduce rider fatigue while also making your legs look nice.

The main line of defence between saddle and soft bits, Assos’ new double-layer, dual-density memory foam chamois has also had the kitchen sink well and truly dropped on it.

With technologies including 3D waffle (a patented, three-layer perforated foam that increases breathability and eliminates excess weight), kraterCooler (a system of small holes in the front of the insert that increases airflow), plus goldenGate (interrupted stitching along the insert’s side panels allowing for more three-dimensional movement) these add up to a significant investment in protecting your most sensitive assets. Something that can only be good news if you’re expecting to be out for more than an hour or two.

Recently gracing the legs of Team Qhubeka-Assos, for those taking an optimistic approach to the weather, the new Mille GTS shorts will be available to amateurs from February.
