One of the most committing rides in the programme. 677 km at altitude, roads above 5000 m and nearly two weeks of accumulation make this an extreme trip for highly prepared riders only.

This Rouleur Edition weaves big Himalayan riding with rich Tibetan culture, from ancient monasteries and prayer wheels to remote valleys and the spiritual pull of Everest itself.

Over nearly two weeks you’ll tackle a series of epic passes and long descents, riding above 5000 metres and alongside glaciers, rivers and vast high plateaux.

The journey builds towards the legendary approach to Everest Base Camp, following quieter back roads through timeless villages and past fluttering prayer flags before that final push to 5200 metres.

Difficulty: 5/5 - Extreme

Altitude is the defining challenge here—even strong riders will feel the effort differently when riding very high. This isn't just about climbing totals; remoteness, elevation, recovery load, and the physical stress of thin air combine to demand genuine preparation.

Dining: In this challenging environment, meals are planned around remoteness and logistics to keep riders healthy, fueled, and recovering. Food serves performance and necessity here, not indulgence.

Who this is for: Best for very experienced endurance riders who understand altitude, pacing and recovery. Not for riders whose main goal is comfort, culinary experience or relaxed sightseeing.

Day by Day

Arrive in Chengdu, Sichuan, in the late afternoon and head to the five-star airport hotel, just five minutes from arrivals.

By 6pm the whole group is in, and you sit down together for a clear trip briefing and dinner, the focus already turning to passes, altitude and the road towards Everest.

Day 1: Arrive Chengdu China

An early flight to Nyingchi lifts you over the Himalayas, offering a first, surreal glimpse of the terrain you’ll soon be riding through.

Touch down at 2,950 metres and ease into the altitude with a deliberately light day: rest, hydrate, breathe, and let the scale of the place sink in.

Day 2: Linzhi

The trip opens properly with an early ride along the Nyang River, a quiet ribbon of tarmac threading through untouched Tibetan wilderness.

You finish at the turquoise waters of Basong Tso, where the Songtsam Resort waits on the shore, an award-winning hideaway framed by lake and mountains.

Day 3: Along the Nyang River

The landscape shifts as you drive towards your first high pass, pine forests giving way to bare, lunar slopes.

You skip the climb while you continue to acclimatise, but claim a different prize instead: a 50km descent through the twisting Yarlung Valley, eyes up for mischievous monkeys keen to snatch a water bottle.

Day 4: Moonscapes and Monkeys

Lhasa is your pause button, a chill day built for acclimatisation and culture.

You visit the Potala Palace, one of Tibet’s oldest monasteries, then wander the old town on foot, spinning prayer wheels and offering a quiet wish for good legs and gentle winds.

Day 5: Lhasa

An early start takes you to Tibet’s famous azure lake, where you ride along the shore before turning towards a 5000-metre pass.

The road brushes past a glacier and spills into a wide, majestic valley, ending in a town so steeped in old-world charm it’s hard to imagine leaving.

Day 6: Azure Lake

At first light you explore the authentic old quarters, then roll out for 98km of mostly flat, fast riding at 4000 metres, the thin air helping the pace along.

The final rise over the bridge into town becomes an unofficial KOM, before an afternoon split between hotel downtime or a quiet visit to the local monastery.

Day 7: Old Quarters & Fast Flats

One of the hardest days of the trip: a long push to the highest pass at 5181 metres, where every pedal stroke feels like it’s happening in slow motion.

A brief stop to catch your breath, then it’s downhill almost all the way to the hotel, following a picturesque river and, on a clear day, catching your first glimpse of Everest on the horizon.

Day 8: Towards Everest

You start in the dark, climbing the huge pass that leads towards Everest Base Camp on a smooth new road.

Crest the top just as the first light hits Everest for a true #WYMTM moment, then drop into a flowing descent, refuel over lunch and ride out along the quieter back road deeper into the Everest region.

Day 9: Tashi Dong

The big one: the back-road approach into Everest Base Camp.

You thread through quiet villages where time moves slowly, prayer wheels turning and flags snapping in the thin air, as the valley tightens and the snow peaks close in.

The altitude rises towards 5200 metres and every turn of the pedals feels like a statement: you’ve ridden your way into one of the world’s great places.

Day 10: Everest

The legs get a break as you leave Everest by vehicle and make your way back to Shigatze, watching the high country roll past the window instead of your front wheel.

Day 11: Out of Everest

Fly out of Tibet and back to Chengdu, arriving before lunch.

From there, either head straight for your onward flight or stay on a little longer to explore the city, the mountains now sitting behind you but very much still in your head.

Day 12: Back to Chengdu
