The pictures collected in Janol Apin's book depict a quirky understanding of cycle racing and they are full of some delightfully romantic scenes. These metal model cyclists were popular toys for French youngsters during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and many great riders, such as Bernard Hinault, recall them with fond memories. The collectable die-cast cyclists are still made in France by Fonderie Roger.
On Les p'tits velos:
"This was our 'Tour de France of Yffiniac'. It was certainly what made me want to ride a bike."
- Bernard Hinault
"How many times have I found myself represented by miniature cyclists!"
- Raymond Poulidor
"Memories of childhood - Sweet perfume of holidays - Among the books, the trinkets and the souvenirs of all kinds, they sit, about ten of them, on the shelves of my office."
- Christian Prudhomme
