The sublime animation of Sylvain Chomet tells the story of the emaciated yet bulging-thighed Champion and his mission to conquer the cycling world, until he is abducted and transported to a grotesque parody of New York, populated by zoot-suited gangsters and overweight kids. With barely a word of dialogue, Chomet's characterisation brings a heartfelt response to every twist and turn endured by the indomitable Grandma, her bewildered dog, Bruno, and the wonderful Triplettes de Belleville.
